Executive Director Position
Overview
The Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation ("Foundation"), an independent federal government agency, is seeking a qualified professional to
serve as its Executive Director.
Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for the daily management of the Foundation, which is done in consultation with and at the direction of
the Board of Trustees. The Director has the overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Foundation, including budget and financial
management, engagement and oversight over vendors, program and office management, outreach to award applicants and winners, and supporting the
Board in dealings with Congress and related activities.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
The Foundation seeks qualified applicants who have prior management and administrative experience, and knowledge of public and private sector
budgets, general accounting practices, and government appropriations. Strong oral and written communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving
skills are considered essential for being effective in the role, as are the ability to work well under pressure and to work collaboratively. More
specific qualifications are as follows:
Minimum educational requirements
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required; a graduate degree in
public policy, business, or law is considered highly desirable.
Computer literacy and online engagement
Applicants should have facility in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access),
Adobe Illustrator (or QuarkXpress), Adobe Photoshop, as well as the ability to learn and use new software; knowledge of web design and videography
are considered highly desirable, but not required.
Government experience and knowledge of budget and appropriations process
Applicants should be well-versed in the process of obtaining government
appropriations. Readiness to support the Board of Trustees in its dealings with government officials, as well as with Congress and staffers, and
prior experience as a Congressional staffer, are considered highly desirable, but not required.
Partnerships and event planning
Applicants should have strong skillsets and experience in developing public-private partnerships and in event
planning and execution.
Social media and Public Relations
Applicants should be well-versed in using social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest,
etc.) to create awareness about the Foundation and increase social networking; prior experience in public relations is considered desirable, but not
required.
Salary Range
Salary and benefits for the Executive Director will be highly competitive and based on the prior experience and education of the selected applicant, but will include a salary in the range of $75,000-$95,000, with paid vacation and medical benefits.
