Dr. Daniel V. Lim was selected for his work in developing a test capable of identifying the presence of anthrax, ricin and other bioterrorism hazards in food, water and blood.   Dr. Lim joined the Department of Biology, University of South Florida (USF), in 1976 after receiving his B.A. in Biology (1970) from Rice University, Ph.D. in Microbiology (1973) from Texas A&M University, and doing a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Lim currently receives $2.2 million in annual support for his research on development of rapid biosensor assays for detection of biological threat agents from the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command, NIH and other agencies.   He works closely with companies, Federal and State agencies, the military and other universities on development and implementation of these rapid detection procedures.  

Dr. Lim served as Interim Chairman of Biology at USF from 1985-1987 and was the Founding Director of the USF Institute for Biomolecular Science from 1988-1993.   He also is associated with the USF Center for Biological Defense and is routinely invited to speak on the subjects of biodefense and biothreat agents at national conferences and workshops.

Dr. Lim is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, a member of the American Society for Microbiology Council, and serves on NIH, USDA, and other Federal study sections . Dr. Lim is author of a textbook, Microbiology (West Publishing Company, First Edition; McGraw-Hill, Second Edition; Kendall/Hunt, Third Edition), and a laboratory manual, Introduction to Microbiology (Contemporary Publishing Company).
